Effort
Recently asked to do an ungodly amount of work. Of course the answer is yes. I have always looked at work as an opportunity to show off my value in tight situations.
Pressure makes diamonds and the great work usually comes down to the wires and that is where legends are made.
- Always do it for you. Because it pleases and interests you.
- Never look for the easy way, you will learn more the hard way.
- Without context, your effort might be overlooked.
1. It’s not necessarily that I love working on a particular brand, but I like the work of solving difficult visual problems in SUPER TIGHT timelines. This is the work that interests me. Make sure your work is the right work for you.
2. Never take the easy way. Everyone is looking for a shortcut to getting to value. But as a culture we have demoted value as a dollar store adjective. “Value” has been cheapened by people looking for a shortcut. You would never want to buy a “value” plane ticket or a “value root canal” or even a “value tattoo”.
3. When you present something are you setting the right context? Did you give your audience the right background to evaluate your work. Did you describe your process and timeline to communicate effort. Did you tie your audience goals to specific deliverables to show value?
Your audience can be coming at you from any direction. Your job is to set their expectations. It is your job. Don’t be mistaken.
