Motivations. I can't make you care...
SIDE NOTE: I love how reading one thing can totally change the course of a post/conversation/life.
Tomorrow is a new year at work for everyone.
We are all going to say that it was a well needed rest from the daily grind. We all wish it could be longer, and the guaranteed, “it just flew by”.
The misconception that your attitude and outlook will actually have any lasting change based on these few days, is a lie! We all tell our inner selves the same story. Temporary relief is all you’ll feel, and your previous thoughts will race back in sooner than they did last time, once this holiday egg nog wears off.
If you want to have a lasting effect to really change your performance, attitude and outlook, change your motivations. If you can just mail it in everyday and coast through, then maybe it’s time to increase the stakes, or even pull up stakes. Find you passion. Set goals and get there.
I mentioned it in The Basics post. Students always wanted to know how to get there fast. It was obvious that their motivations were misaligned. If you love what you do there are no shortcuts or value in missing out on the journey. You wake up every morning to continue the journey. Find your motivation.
